The Walt Disney Archives and other factions of the Walt Disney Company have expanded their reach in the last few years to bring unique exhibits to museums across the United States and the world. 2022 is no different and there are so many opportunities to experience Disney right where you live. From getting up close to some of the most iconic costumes and props in movie history, to learning about the science behind Pixar animation, there is always something unique and inspiring to see when Disney comes to town.
Inside the Walt Disney Archives
Celebrate the legacy of the Walt Disney Company archives. This exhibit premiered in Japan in 2018 and was also previously at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California. The exhibit, curated by the Walt Disney Archives, contains 450 pieces of artwork, props and costumes. All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives
This exhibition's three sections explores the glittery and shiny side of costume design, jewelry and accessories! Over 200 pieces representing 100 productions from Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel, and 20th Century Fox are on display. Some of the items you'll see include crowns and tiaras from The Princess Diaries films, the "Heart of the Ocean" necklace from Titanic, Doctor Strange's "Eye of Agamotto" amulet, and Genie's lamp from Disney's 2019 live action Aladdin film. Disney: The Magic of Animation
This exhibition at ACMI (Australian Centre for Moving Image) in Melbourne, Australia features more than 500 pieces of artwork selected by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library. The exhibit will display original sketches, paintings and concept art dating back to 1928. Additional activities like a workshop on cel animation and decorating your own Mickey ears are also available on certain dates and times. Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit
Join Doc and her friends in the McStuffins Toy Hospital. Three sections invite kids to explore through hands on activities that teach lessons on wellness, nurturing and empathy. At the Pet Vet station toy pets need (pretend) CAT scans, in the Emergency Room toys need checkups and mending operations, and in the Nursery toys need to be fed and bathed. This exhibit is targeted to kids age 2-6. Emotions at Play with Inside Out
This exhibit is full of activities that help children understand the role that emotions, memories and imagination play in their lives. They learn how they express the five core emotions represented in the film and how they might recognize these emotions in others. Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume
This exhibit is a love letter to Disney costume designers. Explore design artistry and craftsmanship through 70 of Disney's most memorable film and television costumes. Characters represented include Cinderella, Maleficent, Gaston, Mary Poppins (1964 and 2018), The Sanderson Sisters and more! Inspiring Walt Disney: The Animation of French Decorative Arts
This exhibit showcases how Walt Disney and his animation studio used influences from french decorative arts to add aesthetic, depth and story to his films and theme parks. 60 pieces of decorative art including furniture and porcelain from the 18th century are displayed alongside 150 pieces gathered from the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, Walt Disney Archives, Walt Disney Imagineering and The Walt Disney Family Museum. This is the first ever Disney exhibition at The Met. Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes
More than 300 pieces make up this exhibit. You'll find costumes and props from Marvel films like Black Panther and Iron Man and props such as Peter Quill's walkman, Thor's hammer and Matt Murdock's glasses and cane. You'll also find rare artifacts, original artwork and some unique photo ops! The Science Behind Pixar
This STEM focused interactive exhibit brings your favorite Disney Pixar films to life, and you're in the creators seat! Learn about camera work, digital sculpting, texture creation, lighting, stop-motion animation and more! You'll also get to see scale models of some favorite characters like Buzz Lightyear and Mike and Sully. The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure
This exhibit was first displayed, in part, at the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot. Walt Disney Imagineering partnered with the museum to bring the Kansas City's contribution to jazz history to life. Unique local artifacts are joined by maquettes of Joe Gardner and Dorothea Williams from Disney Pixar's film Soul.
